MARINE SCIENCE MANIA: Become an aquatic scientist! Enter the world where little sunlight penetrates! Survey symbiotic relationships of the deep! Research a fish cleaning station - find who is using it! Where are the whales? Sharks & shells all around! Build a recycled sub! View hydrothermal vents, bioluminescent lights in the deep & check out jellies, dragons & weeds of the sea! Why are these sea inhabitants hiding in the fort of a sponge? On Day 1 each future scientist receives a Marine Mania shiny silver kit with project supplies to use each day & a complete list of vocabulary words to share with parents at home!
TWISTED TECHNOLOGY: Here is a whole new world of technology! Become an electro-whiz & discover how science & circuitry work & switch it on! Find out how electrons move through wires! Test series & parallel circuits! Guess with gears! Become a junior engineer! Understand & use the engineering design process. Do the BLT – Build it, Learn it, Take it! Improvise an remote infrared or radio controlled individual project! If it moves, you make it! More technology: investigate money, money, money! Is art affected by science? Create a clay “chichuly” or a “Calder” mobil! Using the Summer Olympics as inspiration, our upcoming topics include labs for specific sports! Children discover the secrets of science for advantages in sports! They practice the science with us and then while watching the Summer Olympics they understand the science behind those sports. On Day 1 each future scientist receives a contraption holder for supplies plus complete list of vocabulary words & background briefing on each project to share with parents at home!
SPARKLING SCIENCE FOR GIRLS: Looking your best is as much science as art! Learn the chemistry behind your favorite spa & hair products. Follow your nose on a fragrant journey through the science, history & art behind creating your own aromatic bath goodies, shimmering lips glosses & sweet-smelling sachets with your new science’riffic knowledge. Experience beautiful side of biology & chemistry with this unique collection of experiments! Find entertainment in chemicals! Learn to create chemical concoctions & how to utilize oils, gels & lotions to make scents you can wear. Don’t forget the Bling! Create custom paper!! Discover science is glamorous! Call 925.820.2415 with questions about ingredients & allergies. Each participant will make & take home a collection of perfumes, bath fizzes, sachets, recipes & more!

Can you tell the difference between frogs & toads? Do you understand llama language! Can the sun cook your specialty pizza? Zoom in on the unseen world of mini beasts & take home your very own microscope! Make an aqua scope & view under water life in a Spectrum of Science “pond”. Examine scaly friends & thorny plants! Our goal is to spark personal connections between children & the natural world that will lead them to become future stewards of planet Earth. This camp provides snazzy, splendid, spotted & spectacular science!
SCIENCE RETURNS: Repeat our popular school year projects! Explore, discover, test & explode with science!! Learn about Simple Machines, Chemistry & Molecular Gastronomy! Become a Paleobiologist & examine dinosaur remnants of the past, then delve into modern dragons! They do exist! Are simple machines an actual invention or simply something learned from exploring & testing the world around us? Find fun in physics using crazy & cool pieces plus hammers & nails! Build a mini-catapult and fire away! Create an gooey solid! Science has never been so much fun! Investigate lahars & laminar flow! Check out liquefaction. Explore the magnetic flip! The future of the world is in the hands of today’s children! Have fun & let the learning begin! Each project includes vocabulary & background information for parents to continue the learning at home!
SENSATIONAL SCIENCE IN THE SOLAR SYSTEM: This is the YEAR OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM! Try spinning in space as well as space spin offs! Build a home-made launcher & watch it fly! What type of rocket will it be? Model a black hole with plasma jets & find the event horizon! Make a Universe Curtain! Understand the transit of Venus! Compare weights on different planets! How does the pull of gravity affect life on Earth? What is warp speed? Is it possible to move to the moon? Check out the life cycle of a star! FAQ:
- Will you guarantee that friends/siblings be enrolled in the same camp? Yes, Spectrum of Science will guarantee children will be placed in the same group. As a small nonprofit, we believe in children being placed together!!
- Why does the same topic have a different cost at different sites? The price difference is the fee the different facilities charge Spectrum of Science. Spectrum of Science charges less than $10/hour for outstanding hands on science where every child gets to build, test, experiment with his/her own supplies as well as take home his/her own project.
- Can the discount be shared by siblings? Yes, the discounts are calculated by family and as long as 1 check or 1 credit charge is used, the discount is good for all children!!
- Are all ages together? Yes, at most sites children are divided when there are enough students to create more than 1 group. Spectrum of Science teaches using the 1 room school house philosophy where we discuss the topic as a group and then get our hands on. Extension activities and challenge activities are then introduced to any child that has completed the initial build or test. This way no child is stressed just to get done and no child is bored waiting for others. We stress small groups (average 12 kids) and lots of teacher support. All camps will have at least 2 staff. No HUGE camps here!!
- Do you offer overnight camps? No, except when we do a custom camp and then we will work with you to create a camp that fits your needs, times, dates, location and topics.
- What is a custom camp? A custom camp is where we work with you to create a camp specific to your needs and interest. You select the topic, location, date and time and Spectrum of Science will bring everything to you (and you save the facility fee).
- What is your refund policy? Cancellation Policy: If you need to cancel, you must notify us in writing (email is ok) at least two weeks in advance and we will attempt to fill your slot from our waiting list. If we are able to fill your slot, we will refund the program cost minus a $25 cancellation fee. If we are unable to fill the slot, we cannot refund any portion of the program fee. No refund will be given if cancelled less than 8 days before the start of a camp.
- Will the children eat any of the experiments? No, due to food allergies and dislikes, Spectrum of Science does not eat any of our experiments.
- What should my child bring to camp? Backpack or bag, snack (NO NUTS PLEASE) a drink and EXCITEMENT!!
- Do you offer extended care? Yes, EXPLORATIONS IN SCIENCE is our Extended Care opportunity. In order to better accommodate working parents with time constraints Spectrum of Science offers early hour “Explorations” before camp as well as late “Explorations” pick up after camp. Each day “Explorations” will have different projects including the basic areas of science. These explorations are for all ages and do not include a make and take but are hands on (sometimes even messy!).
